Job Overview:

Through strategic collaboration, process improvement and innovation the Director of Strategy will be an integral team member in what drives and determines our success as a business. The Strategy team is the enterprise minded unit of Bloomingdale's that supports vision, drives change, efficiency and results by activating all business units through an aligned and clearly articulated strategy. In this role you will serve as an internal consultant as part of the Strategy team within Bloomingdale's. The director of strategy will develop transformative growth strategies, focused on helping key business stakeholders make fact-based decisions for strategic and organizational alignment as well as facilitate the development and implementation of strategic plans.

Essential Functions:

Strategy Building
  • Enterprise Vision/Strategies: Understand the collective, long-term vision and ambition for Bloomingdale's and connect dots across the organization to help cross-functional partners and their strategies contribute towards that macro perspective.
  • Functional Vision/Strategies: Collaborate with Executive Committee member(s) and/or business units to formulate transformative visions and strategies, based on assessment of fact patterns and collaboration with key stakeholders, and communicated through compelling presentations. Serve as an enterprise-minded, unbiased change agent.
  • Project-Based Opportunities: Apply analytical rigor and problem-solving frameworks to objectively unearth, prioritize, and pursue top- and bottom-line opportunities that challenge the status quo and tackle critical business/operations challenges.
  • Roadmaps to Operationalize: Create structures, develop roadmaps, and manage project deliverables to operationalize and scale strategic plans across and within respective retail functions for impact

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and connectivity by bringing the right people to the table at the right time and maintaining an unbiased commitment to our strategic objectives and operating principles.
  • Simplification: Lead process improvement initiativesvia new tools and accountability structures that simplify ways of working and drive efficiencies across business units.
  • Prioritization: Initiate prioritization, help force-rank competing interests, and vocalize the downstream impacts of decisions or requests on other teams
  • Colleague Connection: Stay on the pulse of colleagues' POV toward processes, practices, and operations to act as a bridge between them and leadership so that both parties work to achieve our larger goals

Required Skills
  • Ability to work with the most senior leaders in an organization as a partner with tact and ease to gain respect.
  • High level of discernment and understanding of nuance. Ability to "read between the lines" in a fast-paced, complex organization and take unclear/ambiguous dialogue and translate into clear next steps and priorities.
  • Exceptional communication, storytelling, and presentation creation abilities

Qualifications and Competencies:

We encourage candidates with either a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field to apply

5+ years related experience
  • Practices open and continuous communication, values keeping others informed, effectively presenting information in a clear, concise manner
  • Excellent leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across functional lines and at many levels
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically and technically
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires prolonged periods of sitting, with occasional standing
  • Occasionally requires walking, bending, reaching, hearing and talking
  • Continuous use of computers and other office equipment
  • Frequently lift/move up to 25 lbs.
