Job Details
As a lead data engineer for finance you'll drive the design of data models, build data pipelines, automate builds and deployments using CI/CD, decipher APIs, while leveraging SQL to provide timely, clean, tested, documented and well-defined data.
You will be the main data point of contact for all finance related data products and work closely with stakeholders on finance projects. You will act as an enabler for other data engineers and data analysts by providing guidance on architectural and design decisions, supporting the finance team's data modeling efforts while evangelizing and encouraging our best practices and governance policies.
Your Mission
As On is growing, so are our data needs. Here, you'll play an important role in shaping the vision while optimizing existing and new data products in the finance domain. You will also have the chance to collaborate closely with fellow data engineers as well as members of the finance team to advance our Data Products further.
What your first 6 months at On might look like:
1 month:
- Get to know the data landscape and introduce yourself to various data and business teams you will be interacting with
- Pick up and resolve your first change request
- Participate in code reviews making sure that our code is well designed, tested, robust, secure, compliant, performant and readable
3 months:
- Implement a new service or feature to our codebase
- Act as a subject matter expert in the finance work stream data engineering efforts
6 months:
- Introduce an important architectural improvement to our systems
- Seek out for opportunities to simplify and streamline data management systems and processes
Your Story
- You have a working knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling and ELT concepts, and are experienced in SQL programming
- You have strong programming skills in Python with experience in building scalable, low latency data processing applications
- You have experience working with data infrastructure, storage, APIs, data pipelines, observability and workflow orchestration in distributed cloud environments
- You have experience with software engineering concepts/skills - git version control, testing, debugging, research, technical problem solving, continuous learning
- You have a keen interest in finance processes and data, and are always looking for ways to support the finance team and their processes with data products.
- You are proactive and an excellent communicator, and you have experience in translating business requirements into data solutions
- You are comfortable managing multiple concurrent tasks and have the capacity and willingness to completely own their lifecycle with minimal oversight
- You have experience with mentoring other data engineers, data analysts and data scientists and increasing the data literacy of our teams. You prefer to work in a team than to work alone
- You are enthusiastic about innovating, excited to continuously learn and comfortable with ambiguity. You are curious and like to keep up with existing and new technology trends in the data space
Bonus:
- You have experience with accounting and controlling processes and data in ERP and planning systems, such as Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, currency conversion or financial planning.
- You have experience with modern data tools (our data stack is based on GCP and we use BigQuery, Airflow, dbt, Looker & Hex)
- You have experience working with containerization and orchestration technology (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as a code frameworks (Terraform, Helm)
- You have been actively involved in designing, building, and maintaining scalable, high-performance data pipelines to power real-time customer data analytics and insights

The data platform team is responsible for building, maintaining and growing internal data platforms, systems and processes that empower everyone at On to impact business outcomes by making informed decisions.
You will be joining a team of about 10 engineers who take care of the company's data needs across most of the organization. We are working in smaller work streams of data engineers, data analysts and stakeholders to deliver valuable data products for the company.
